Brunsberg Konsthall, Forskningstation 1, SE 67194 Brunskog is located in the region of Värmland, Sweden.

Since 2023 it has been transformed into an art site with Brunsberg Konsthall in it´s center. The exhibitions and events will focus on the interaction between contemporary art, nature and human society. Brunsberg Konsthall consists of a 400 square metre exhibition hall, the glass house, a gallery, two artist studios and an outdoor area for sculptures and outdoor activities.

Brunsberg Konsthall defines itself as an international bridge for the exchange of ideas and artistic strategies for acquiring knowledge in order to complement academic research with artistic approaches – a long term project, which will be constantly further developed.

The former forestry research institute SKOGFORSK was built in 1949 to research the cultivation of pine and spruce to establish a gene bank of the region. Hundreds of trees from the best stands in the fprests of Värmland were preserved and archived there for posterity. For 60 years, the permanent staff worked and lived in houses built around the research institute in Brunsberg. There was also a school and a railway station. In 2004, it was decided to gradually close down the forest research station. Scientists continued to work there until 2023 to monitor the growth of trees in plantations throughout Sweden.

Brunsberg Konsthall’s programme reflects the interests and motivations of its founders, who were inspired by Fluxus and Joseph Beuys. It expands the concept of art to include the interaction of material, nature and human society.Brunsberg Konsthall is a member of the local community association Byalaget , which takes care of the local culture and runs a café in the summer in a former watermill nearby.

The first exhibition, „work in progress„, opened in summer 2024.

In June 2025, the exhibition ANNO 55 shows works of 6 norwegian artists, all born in 1955, who share a long and profound friendship through their artwork.

From July to September 2025, Brunsberg Konsthall will launch the project   The Botany of Desires*, an exhibition series with a supporting programm consisting of artist talks, film screenings and lectures. The project aims to reflect aspects of the co-evolution of plants and human culture through artworks by three generations of contemporary artists from Sweden, Norway France and Germany. An exhibition that refers to some of the thoughts which were the starting point of the former research station.

The exhibition programme at Brunsberg Konsthall will present new and established contemporary artists/groups and their projects. It will promote the production and communication of contemporary art on a local, nordic and international level.
